workout, guns, cars.
Workout this morning was lackluster. We did the shoulder and back stuff we did not have time for Monday, then did the cardio stuff. I jogged 15 minutes and got a pretty painfull side-ache. I walked for 5 minutes, then tried running again. After 2 minutes I was over acceptable pain limits again. So I stopped. Pretty dissapointing.

I'm pretty pissed off still about the mercedes situation. To make myself feel better about driving the Volvo I put the back seat back in, and checked the fluids last night. Just a little somethig makes me feel better I guess.

Been thinking ahead to the Boomershoot lately. I think it's going to be a lot more practical to get my hands on a AK-47 for the shoot. I've wanted one for a long while, so I think now is the time. Cheaper ammo, still sets off boomers, and fills the "assault rifle" slot vacant in my collection. $100 for 1000 rounds sounds so nice compared to the $1700.00 for 1000 I'd pay for the .300WM Ruger. This would also give me the opportunity to send some cash towards my friends over at Ultimak. I think I'll buy some 7.62 x 39mm soon and head over to Moscow and give Ry's rifle a go if he'll let me. make sure I'm getting what I want.

you're always welcome to shoot my guns. I don't know that an AK will help you for the boomershoot, unless you pick up a dragunov or an rpk clone (vepr).

AK's and boomers

The AK has a couple of problems when it comes to the Boomershoot. One is the MV is only about 2300 fps and is pushing a bullet that only has a BC of about 0.325. This results in a target velocity at the first berm of under 1500 fps. This is marginal for detonation. Any further out and you can forget about it. And two, the accuracy for a cheap AK and cheap ammo is going to be about 4 MOA at best. That gives you a hit probability of about 12% at the first berm assuming a gaussian distribution on the bullet spread (which probably isn't true for a gun not built for accuracy). With a 1 MOA gun you get a hit probability of about 65% at the same range. And those numbers assume the shooter does their job perfectly with the exception of a +/- 2 MPH wind error estimation.

Furthermore... I only know of three guns shooting 7.62x39 ammo at all of the boomershoots combined (the Ultimak event doesn't count). One was a bolt gun (Ruger made one for a while) and I think he got a couple boomers at about 280 yards. Ry got one with his AK at about 280 yards after several hundred rounds. A guy with an SKS tried at least two different years and expended hundreds of rounds of ammo and got zero.

Bring an AK and a 1000 rounds if you want but I expect you will be much happier with 100 rounds of expensive ammo and a good bolt gun than 1000 rounds of cheap ammo and a cheap semi-auto.
